What does it take to lose body fat?

We need body fat.

We need a certain amount to stay warm and to call upon when food is scarce.

Body fat is stored energy and we are very good at storing it.

if you think about it, we are very good at storing excess energy for a very good reason.

Before we had Uber Eats, fridges and processed food. We could go for days between meals.
The ability to store energy and use it has helped us survive.

These days though, there is a very good chance you have food within a few meters of you. And if you don’t, you could get it with a simple trip to the shops, or through an app on your phone.

The point is, that our circumstances have changed, but our biology has not.

If you are an adult who lives in Australia, statistically there is a good chance you are overweight or obese. Well over 50% of Aussies are. Same in the US, and also in the UK.

Carrying excess body weight increases your chances of developing many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and …….

Excess body fat is a problem for most Australians. It accumulates slowly, with lifestyles that we initially don’t think are doing us much harm.
Slowly but surely, as the years go by, our waistlines are getting bigger.

So what can we do about it?

The good news is, there is plenty we can do!

On an individual level, it comes back to your lifestyle. What you do consistently, day in and day out adds up over time.

Some of the more important factors are listed below
- How much food you eat
- What you eat
- When you eat
- How stressed you are
- How much sleep you get
- Your sleep quality
- How much movement you have
- How much muscle you have
- Do you exercise
- Age
- Height

I could go on but these are the most important factors.

Whilst I wish I could tell you exactly what to do to lose the body fat you want to and live the rest of your life exactly at the body fat percentage you want, unfortunately, the answer is different for everyone.
But it does always come back to lifestyle.

So start with the low-hanging fruit. What is the easiest thing to change, that is going to have the biggest impact.
For example; for some people, it may be going for a daily walk, for others, it is cutting back on alcohol or sugary drinks. My best advice is to get some help. Talk to someone very good at getting people results. A coach is great, it may be a personal trainer.

Get some support, get some guidance, and watch those kgs melt away over time.
